From USO Midway with Love –Terry Lemke, Center Director, USO Midway
As we edge closer to three months since suspending operations at USO Midway, I look back and find myself so impressed with the USO Volunteers that answer the call, every day, to support our military and their families. During my own time in the military, I took for granted the amount of support I received. I did not realize how much time and effort it took to send one much-needed care package of hygiene products, snacks, socks and other items to the front lines. Now, working for the USO, I see our volunteers and staff members’ endless support to the mission – from giving up their holidays, weekends, and late nights to volunteer at the USO Midway Center by providing a warm welcome to every military member, their families and newly graduated recruits from Great Lakes Naval Base. Since the pandemic interrupted Volunteer Appreciation Month, I want to show my appreciation for our volunteers who give all they can and motivate me to be better. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
