USO Celebrates Soon-to-Be Military Moms with Special Baby Shower

Part of the USO Illinois mission is to not only support service members, but also their families through a variety of programs that covers a unique set of needs. On Wednesday, June 22nd, USO Illinois hosted a “USO Special Delivery” baby shower at the Great Lakes Community Center for 50 expectant military mothers, their dependents and new mothers who gave birth within the past year.
Heidi Murkoff, author of the What to Expect series, and the Founder of the What to Expect Foundation partnered with USO to throw this special event. Participants received tips on staying healthy during pregnancy, what to expect throughout the delivery process and ideas on how to manage those first milestone years. Additionally, author Heidi Murkoff hosted a Q&A session, where soon-to-be moms were encouraged to open up about their concerns, ask candid questions and to find support from their attending peers.
The mothers were also treated to a party that featured gift baskets filled with baby must haves, an exciting raffle, pregnancy themed games and a delicious lunch. The moms, who are often away from their families, friends and support network were offered a welcome touch of home and a supportive atmosphere at the event.

Thank you to Heidi Murkoff and the What the Expect Foundation for putting on this fantastic event for our military mothers.
